community klogs
You got chocolate on my peanut butter! Two communities (schmoozers and bloggers), two media (Ryze and weblogs), and mutual members. Ross Mayfield and Valdi Krebs cough up the first results of their study of the intersection of two social networks. Ryze is a gregarious, directly-social space, blogging is a reluctant, indirectly-social space.

Dave Winer, software pioneer and entrepreneur, is on the market. Believe it or not I'm applying for a job in academia, so it's time to put together my curriculum vitae. It's a fancy name for a resume. Basically, the job I want to do is the one I have been doing, with some extras (like teaching), but not in the context of a commercial software company. more... I think Dave is following his heart. He may have had his fill for now of the daily small business owner grind. And UserLand may be poised for new management and new directions. We'll stay tuned. p.s. Now is the time for Dave to make weblogs more useful in job search. Start by acknowledging that CVs are made from microcontent. Then... Blogging tools should turbocharge your career search. What would it take for a Radio or manila site to behave like a Wiki? Wiki is, in Ward's original description: The simplest online database that could possibly work.
Wiki is a piece of server software that allows users to freely create and edit Web page content using any Web browser. Wiki supports hyperlinks and has a simple text syntax for creating new pages and crosslinks between internal pages on the fly.
Wiki is unusual among group communication mechanisms in that it allows the organization of contributions to be edited in addition to the content itself.
Like many simple concepts, "open editing" has some profound and subtle effects on Wiki usage. Allowing everyday users to create and edit any page in a Web site is exciting in that it encourages democratic use of the Web and promotes content composition by nontechnical users. This means exposing your Radio weblog, or perhaps a category of your weblog, to outside editing. I'm still having trouble architecting this. Radio makes static pages while wiki is dynamic; so Manila seems a closer fit. Wiki Design Principles. Do you have wiki experience? Chime in, please. [a klog apart's Blue Sky Radio]

Gary Turner Just heard our friend and fellow-blogger, Gary Turner, has lost his dad. So sorry. And this within a week of he and his wife having a new baby?! Just to remind us nothing in this world is fair or predictable or sensible. [a klog apart's Obituaries a la Blog]

Joe Foss died today at age 87. I probably didn't agree with Foss on much of anything when it comes to politics, but I always admired the sort of life he lived. Foss was an ace pilot, governor of South Dakota, commissioner of the American Football League, and head of the NRA. [a klog apart's Obituaries a la Blog]
