Zach Lynch's Neurotechnology and Society keeps bothering me. For example, in his post on Neuroethics: The Battle For Your Mind, Zach compares the objections to neurological enhancement to earlier objections to the birth control pill.

I'm squeamish about tinkering with my brain. All that "your brain on drugs" propaganda really stuck.

I was concerned about psychotherapy for the same reasons. Will I be the same person absent inner torments?

I'm coming around, slowly, to the notion that it's my grey matter and I'll tweak it as I see fit. My biggest concern is ignorance; mine and those who inform me.

Sex education said "this is your reproductive system." You gotta know this stuff so you can make responsible, life altering choices. After all, your pubescent or teenage body is swarming with hormones. Your body is changing. Your feelings and perceptions are changing. You can change from child to parent now. Big stuff.

We're almost at the Brain Ed stage.

Manage your brain. How it works. Improve performance. Avoid disease. Recognize altered states. Troubleshoot and repair. Use your brain responsibly. Ethics and ettiquette.

Start teaching Brain Ed in middle school. Never to0 soon to program the next generation.

Newsreaders like NewzCrawler and Radio UserLand do TiVo things. Time shifting. Easier, more complete channel and program selection.Season pass for your favorite shows. Record in the background while playing in the foreground. Save a post to your blog instead of to your VCR.

TiVo needs blogspace community tools: add social filtering (recommendations), feedback, and threads of commentary.
