There's a ComputerWorld story: European Union wants U.S. to ban spam
10:36:15 AM
The European Union is pushing a law that prohibits e-mail marketers from sending spam to individuals unless they have asked to receive promotions, an approach described as opt-in.
Is the freedom to send email a human right? A civil right? Should you defend the right to send unpopular email as strongly as popular email? If so, perhaps this is a case for Electronic Frontier Foundation advocacy?
The ACLU defended the rights of the Ku Klux Klan to march through a Jewish community, despite their hateful and grossly unpopular views. And I'll defend the right of racist hate-mongers like Gordon Moore aka Esau Lane of 326 5th Street, Jersey City, NJ 07032 phone number 201-200-1001 to publish vile antisemitic web sites and software like Hoozajew.org.
Should we do no less for those who send us repugnant email? Shouldn't the Internet be a haven for free speech? Even for Penis Enlargers?
